Bridgestone is recalling several tires over a manufacturing defect that could cause crashes
Most drivers are familiar with the idea of a car recall. However, sometimes, issues that force recalls come from individual components. This is now the case with some Bridgestone tires, which may have a defect that could increase the likelihood of a crash. Because of this, the company is recalling a large volume of one of its most popular trailer tires, the Bridgestone Ecopia line. Of course, driving around with bad tires is a safety issue, which means people should act accordingly.
This isn’t a full-blown car recall, but drivers shouldn’t get comfortable driving around with bad tires
According to the Asbury Park Press, the Department of Transportation has forced a car recall over some Bridgestone tires. Specifically, this issue impacts some R123 Bridgestone Ecopia tires sized 295/75R22.5. As mentioned, this is a result of a manufacturing mistake. According to the recall, “The tires may have been manufactured incorrectly with one of the three stabilizer ply belts applied in the wrong orientation.”
Naturally, the DOT is issuing the tire recall to protect consumer safety. The notice also says, “As such, these tires fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 119. Incorrect belt orientation may cause the tires to fail and increase the risk of a crash.” In other words, there is an increased risk that these trailer tires could fail while in use and cause an unfortunate crash.
As is the case with car recalls, Bridgestone will replace these impacted tires for free. People with these tires can expect official notification letters on May 13, 2025. Drivers with questions can reach out to Bridgestone customer service by calling 800-847-3272.
