Kentucky woman ejected from SUV during police chase
Police officers in Georgetown, Kentucky, attempted to pull a woman over when she was caught speeding through traffic, but things quickly escalated. They spotted her SUV traveling 71 mpg in a 50 mph zone on McClelland Circle.
While turning on their lights to initiate a traffic stop, the driver crashed along U.S. 25. Officers got out of their cars to check on her. But then she suddenly sped away, heading northbound on U.S. 25.
More police officers were dispatched to assist with the chase. According to WKYT, she briefly escaped. However, her vehicle was spotted smashed into the front of the Save-A-Lot grocery store on Broadway Street.
The suspect, identified as Amber Somokar was found inside the store, surrounded by rubble. She was ejected during the crash and went flying through the building.
Somehow, Somokar survived and was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. There were no other injuries reported and no passengers were in the SUV.
But her troubles are far from over. She faces several charges including speeding, reckless driving, DUI, wanton endangerment of a police officer, criminal mischief, fleeing police, and evading police.
It’s unclear what influence she was operating under. But if I had to guess, alcohol was probably a factor. Drunkenness often leads to bad decisions.
