Massachusetts firefighters pull SUV out of canal and find dead body
A pedestrian in Lowell, Massachusetts noticed that tire marks were in the grass and dirt, leading to a canal from the road. The fence wasn’t damaged around 10 PM the night before.
Plus, there was damage to a fence in front of the canal and they could see a taillight sticking out of the water. Oil bubbled to the surface around the black outline of the car.
So, they contacted the police and firefighters arrived to help remove the SUV from the Pawtucket Canal between Lowell District Court on Jackson Street and Appleton Mills. It was behind the courthouse.
Firefighters used a crane to pull the black Honda Pilot out of the canal after a diving team got in the water to assess the situation.
According to WCVB, state police investigators were photographing the vehicle once it was back on land. Then police officers discovered the body of a 65-year-old Lowell man inside the car.
Investigators got to work to determine what happened. The Honda Pilot went off the road around 3 AM. No other vehicles were involved and there is no evidence of foul play. Surveillance cameras in the area aided in the ongoing investigation.
The name of the man hasn’t been released yet. All we can do is speculate about the cause until more information is released. Perhaps the man had a medical emergency or was operating under the influence.
