Ford forced to recall 105,000 popular SUVs over a dangerous seat belt defect
Let’s face it—no automaker is immune to a car recall. It happens to many of the best companies and the most reliable cars. Ford now has a new recall on its hands, and this time, it’s over a seatbelt defect in several of its top SUVs. Luckily, the auto mechanics at Ford dealers will fix the issue free of charge.
Ford has a new car recall for 105,000 of its top SUVs
According to Reuters, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration(NHTSA) announced on April 3rd that it’s issuing a car recall for several top SUVs. In total, this impacts 105,322 vehicles from the Blue Oval and Lincoln. This includes the Ford Expedition and the Lincoln Navigator from 2018 to 2020. Both impacted SUVs are among the most popular full-size SUVs.
So, what caused the NHTSA to force this car recall on Ford? As mentioned, this is coming as a result of seat belt issues. Specifically, the auto safety regulator says that the seat belt pretensioners in the front seat may lock, which could prevent them from retracting or extending. It’s unclear how many complaints the NHTSA received about this issue before issuing the recall.
Of course, seat belts are among a car’s most important safety features. This is the case because they can and often do save lives during car wrecks. As mentioned, auto mechanics at Ford dealerships will fix the issue for free as a result of the car recall. Regarding the next steps, impacted owners can look for an official recall notification or reach out to the service department at their local Ford dealers.
