No, the government isn’t meeting with Nissan about US steel
This post about Nissan and steel isn’t political. Some words got mixed up during an announcement and now I need to set the record straight. When Trump said Nissan is a very good company, he meant Nippon instead. But he didn’t lie, theJapanese automaker is great.
Trump mixes up Nissan and Nippon
While Trump was speaking about United States steel, he had a little word diarrhea. This is fine, it happens to us all. However, it involved Nissan, and now I want to set the facts straight.
When speaking about a new partnership that would create at least 70,000 jobs and add $14 billion to the US economy he accidentally mentioned the Japanese automaker.
He said the company would invest billions of dollars in steel, and it’s a good company, Nissan, a very good company. He’s not wrong, Nissan is wonderful. However, it’s not investing in our steel.
Trump continued to share that they will meet with the automaker next week, and work out the details while continuing to repeat that it’s a good company. Meanwhile, Nissan executives probably felt confused with no memory of making these plans.
According to Indy 100, Trump meant to say Nippon. Both company names are pretty similar. Also, the automaker uses plenty of steel to construct its trucks and SUVs.
The cars use high-strength steel, ultra-high-strength steel, and green steel. Like many other automakers, it also uses aluminum.
Also, the Japanese automaker does employ quite a few Americans across the South. It has about 21,000 workers in Tennessee and Mississippi. It’s taking one of Ford’s battery plants over to do more work in the US.
