The Subaru BRAT is finally returning but there’s a catch

Many drivers remember classic Subaru trucks like the Baja and BRAT. For years, I’ve been chasing rumors about the Subaru BRAT making a triumphant return as compact trucks make a comeback. This time, there is finally concrete evidence to follow, with one catch.
The Subaru BRAT could return with the help of Toyota
The beloved Subaru BRAT was successful in countries all over the world. However, it was discontinued in North America back in 1987. Then it was cut in Europe, Australia, South America, and New Zealand back in 1994.
Drivers have been dreaming of its return ever since. The truck was so popular in Australia that it was nicknamed the Brumpy. Well, kangaroos might not have to miss the Brumpy much longer.
According to Electrek, the BRAT is making a comeback with the help of Toyota. However, the new brat is expected to be electric. While EVs are fine, I feel as if the market is about to be flooded with compact EV trucks.
Nissan and Kia are working on electric trucks for America. Plus, there’s the upcoming Slate EV. Would it be better to offer gas and hybrid powertrains as well?
Anyways, rumors suggest that the BRAT EV will be based on the Toyota EPU concept truck that debuted at the 2023 Tokyo Motor Show. Toyota and Subaru have been working to develop EVs together like the bZ4X and Solterra.
Fans should be excited because the Subaru BRAT is expected to maintain its compact, two-seater design. Plus, it should have standard AWD with rugged off-roading modes to tackle any terrain. Toyota’s truck is expected to have four doors. So, even if they’re electric, at least more tiny trucks are in the works.
