It happens. You let your speed drift a bit above that 60 mph mark on your speedometer while traveling on a highway. But let’s face it, there’s no excuse for a Honda Civic to be hurtling down a California highway at 125 mph. If ever you needed a reminder of that, you need only watch a video of a car crash that resulted in two hospitalizations and five severely damaged vehicles.

Police called off a pursuit of a Honda Civic going 125 mph before it damaged five vehicles in a hellacious car crash

Speed kills. You’ve likely heard those words from concerned parents, cops, and teachers over the years. But it’s not just an irritating sentiment, it’s a true statement about the dangers of poor driving at life-threatening speeds. Doubt it? The NHTSA says that almost one-third of traffic fatalities are speed-related. Yeah, it’s a big deal.

Then you’ve got cases like this one. A white Honda Civic traveling at 125 mph on public roads in the San Fernando Valley. Now, that’s nearly twice the highest speed limit you’ll find on any paved surface in California. Let alone on surface streets away from the 405. Police received reports of the Civic traveling at those speeds on the highway, but opted not to pursue for safety reasons.

Moments after the Honda Civic left the 405, a video captured it slamming into a Ford Maverick. The Maverick was turning left at the time and drove right into the path of the speeding Civic. The violent car crash sent the Maverick and the Civic into other vehicles. By the wreck’s end, five vehicles were damaged and two people were on the way to the hospital.

Look, we all love speed. Fast cars, fast bikes – enthusiasts just love things that go quickly enough to do something stupid. But there’s a time and a place for hair-raising velocity. It’s on the track or in controlled environments free of other motorists. 125 mph has no place on public roads. Slow down and save lives.
